This event is sponsored by various organizations, businesses, and university departments.
Dr. Piña was elected as Chair to the AMS Board on Women and Minorities (BWM). Service within BWM includes working with AMS governance teams on society-wide diversity initiatives, serving on AMS scholarship and award committees, and organizing events such as the Coriolis Reception (for AMS LGBTQA members) and the Women’s Luncheon.
Dr. Piña convened and chaired Themed Joint Session 18: Vulnerability and Extreme Events. This session, a first-of-its-kind, was meant for scientists who work at the intersection of technical science, vulnerable populations, and social justice. The session was very well attended led to many engagements amongst audience-goers.
